The Ad hoc Report Designer is an intuitive, browser-based tool designed for business users to create, modify, and visualize reports without requiring technical expertise. With a simple and guided workflow, users can quickly select data, apply filters and grouping, and design reports tailored to their specific needs. Reports can be previewed and exported in multiple formats.

This document provides an overview of the various features available in the Ad hoc Report Designer and explains how each section contributes to building an ad hoc report.

Key Features

With the Ad hoc Report Designer, you can:

  • Choose data sources and select fields.

  • Apply grouping and filtering conditions.

  • Sort data and apply custom highlights.

  • Generate summaries and totals.

  • Visualize data using grids, charts, matrices, or a combination of these.

  • Preview and export reports in multiple formats.

Designer Layout and User Access

The designer interface is organized into tabs, each representing a functional section of the report configuration process. Users can:

  • Click a tab to open and configure its settings.

  • Click the same tab again to collapse it.

  • Use Expand All and Collapse All to manage the visibility of all tabs simultaneously.

To access and use the Ad hoc Report Designer, users must have the Report Designer role along with system privileges to access ad hoc design features.

Output Types

Ad hoc reports can be generated in multiple layouts, such as:

  • Tabular view using grids or matrices.

  • Graphical view using charts.

  • Hybrid view combining both tabular and graphical representations.

Additional Notes

  • The Ad hoc Report Designer is configurable. Administrators can tailor the interface to simplify the design experience by hiding specific options based on organizational needs.

  • When running a report in HTML output format, the HTML Viewer provides a right-click menu with options to interactively modify the report on the fly. Refer to the Using Power Viewer documentation for details.

  • The toolbar in the HTML Viewer is customizable. For more information, refer to the Customizing HTML Viewer guide.
