Filtering using TopN or BottomN

Filtering using TopN or BottomN

Applies to: Kyvos Enterprise  Kyvos Cloud (SaaS on AWS) Kyvos AWS Marketplace

Kyvos Azure Marketplace   Kyvos GCP Marketplace Kyvos Single Node Installation (Kyvos SNI)

TopN and BottomN can only be applied after other filters, showing the top or bottom number of values you specify. It can only be used with dimensions or levels in the current view.

Note

  • From Kyvos 2025.3 onwards, TopN, BottomN, and measure filters for calculated members in MDX and SQL queries are supported for no-Spark deployments.

  • The grand total and subtotals in a crosstab are not updated when you apply TopN. It can only be applied once per dimension/attribute pair.

  • You cannot modify the criteria in simple and complex filters, such as Contextual TopN, when editing is not allowed from the Sheet and Filter Widget.

Using parameters while applying topN filter

You can apply contextual topN filters against a measure or a dimension parameter in Kyvos worksheets and dashboards. You can also select dimensions and measure type parameters in the contextual topN filter field so that when the parameter value gets changed, the topN filter field gets updated automatically. With the help of this, you can also update the contextual topN filter field from the dashboard by selecting the new value for the parameter.

  1. Select a parameter for applying the topN filter.

  2. On selecting a parameter in the TopN filter, a parameter quick filter is added automatically with a default value. In this example, we have set it to see the top 10 countries by quantity.

On changing the parameter value from the dashboard, you should be able to see the top 10 countries by discount.
As shown, the parameter selected in the topN filter in the sheet gets replaced by the parameter value from the dashboard.

Note

This feature is available only for Kyvos semantic models based on Kyvos Compute.

Filtering support for calculated members not only enables users to filter and customize views based on their specific needs but also enhances Kyvos’ ability to perform complex data analytics.

  • Measure Filtering

    • When users apply measure filters, only base members are affected.

    • Calculated members remain included, even after the filters are applied.
