Creating reference band

Creating reference band

Applies to: Kyvos Enterprise  Kyvos Cloud (SaaS on AWS) Kyvos AWS Marketplace

Kyvos Azure Marketplace   Kyvos GCP Marketplace Kyvos Single Node Installation (Kyvos SNI)

In Kyvos XY family charts, you can use horizontal or vertical reference bands or lines as markers to compare data to specific values.

From Kyvos 2025.4 onwards, you can set dynamic reference bands lines.

You can create reference lines or bands for:

  • Left or right value axis for Bar and Line family charts.

  • Top or bottom value axis for column chart.

  • Left or bottom value axis for scatter chart.

Using the reference band or line, you can specify the following:

  • Start or end value for the reference band by defining a value or measure

  • Place reference labels on charts, axes, or labels

  • Set the background color

  • Label reference lines or bands

  • Define the style of the reference line

Note

Any reference line or band added to a worksheet is also included when exporting charts in PDF format.

Adding a reference band or line

To add a reference band or line, perform the following steps.

  1. From the Toolbox, select Workbooks, then select a workbook and worksheet.

  2. Select Design if needed.

  3. In the Properties pane, scroll down if needed.

  4. In the Reference Band/Line section, click the Left Axis or Right Axis link.

  5. The Create Reference Band/Line dialog box is displayed.

  6. Select the type as Band or line.

    1. To create a reference band, do the following:

      1. Specify the start and end values using either the Value option (for numeric values) or the Measure option (for required measures).

      2. Set the background color.

      3. Select the label as fixed Text or From measure.

    2. To create a reference line, do the following:

      1. Specify the value using either the Value option (for numeric values) or the Measure option (for required measures).

      2. Select the line style, line weight, and background color.

      3. Enter a label for a reference line.

  7. Choose the Axis, Chart, or Legend option to display the reference label you added.

  8. Select the Include values in label checkbox if you want to to display the XY chart value where the reference band is set

  9. Click Apply

Adding a dynamic reference line or band

Kyvos now supports dynamic reference lines and bands, where the label value is determined from the dynamic caption defined within a calculated measure expression. If no dynamic caption is available for a measure, the measure name will be used as the dynamic label.
As a result, labels update dynamically based on the logic defined in the calculated measure expression — for example, when filter values are changed.

You can use fixed text as the label value for both reference lines and bands. Additionally, you can save worksheets with dynamic labels for reference lines and bands across all XY family charts.

To add a dynamic reference band or line, perform the following steps.

        1. Specify a calculated measure with a dynamic caption. For example, the expression for the caption measure could specify: when the product is "Furniture," return "First"; otherwise, return "Second."

        2. Set the label value to the calculated measure. To create a dynamic label, select the calculated measure (e.g., CalculatedMeasure_1) as the label value.

          • When the product is "Furniture," users will see "First" as the reference line label.

          • When the product is not "Furniture," users will see "Second" as the reference line label.

    2. Similarly, to create a dynamic label for a reference band, you must select a measure as the label value. Ensure that if a dynamic caption is not set for the measure, the measure name is displayed as the label value in the chart area.

  8. Select the Include values in label checkbox if you want to to display the XY chart value where the reference band is set.

  9. Click Apply
