Selecting a Data Source

The Data Source tab allows you to select the query object and configure base settings for the ad hoc report. This includes specifying the data source, setting the report title and format, and applying template and output preferences.

Query Object

Select the query object from the Query Object Selector.

Navigate to the desired folder and choose the object that serves as the data source for the report. Once selected, its fields become available across all sections of the Ad hoc Report Designer.

Query Editor

Opens the Query Editor. Available to users with Data Administrator privileges. You can create or modify the selected query object.

Formula Fields

Opens the Formula Fields dialog. Formula fields allow you to define calculated fields at runtime without changing the query object. These fields can be used like standard fields in grids, charts, or matrices. You can also add formula fields from the ad hoc report viewer via right-click.

Report Title

Enter the title to be displayed on the report output.

Report Format

Select from the following output formats: HTML (default), ACROBAT, PDF, MS EXCEL, COMMA SEPARATED, TEXT, MS WORD, MS POWERPOINT, iHTML, SMART, XML, RAW TEXT Each format determines how the report is generated or viewed. For example, HTML opens in the browser-based viewer, while MS EXCEL downloads an XLS file.

Template

Select a predefined report template that controls layout aspects such as font, color, and page size. Some templates may be designed for specific use cases like wide-format reports.

Report Contents

Choose between:

  • Detailed – Includes full detail rows (default).

  • Summarized – Displays only grouped summaries and hides detailed data. Useful when grouping and summaries are applied.

View Options

View options allow you to configure additional settings specific to the selected output format.

Download Zipped File

(Applicable to download formats). Select to compress the report into a ZIP file. Clear to download the file without compression.

Multipage

(Applicable to HTML, PDF, TEXT, MS WORD, iHTML, XML, RAW TEXT, MS POWERPOINT). Select to split the report into pages based on template size. Clear to generate a single-page report (note: may affect performance and viewer compatibility).

Pagination

Choose how Excel output is divided:

  • Single Sheet – Entire report on one sheet.

  • MultiSheet – Pages split based on template size.

  • Horizontal Breaks – Pages split horizontally (width-wise) only, retaining full field width.

Remove Blank Rows, Columns

Select to exclude blank rows/columns for compact output. Clear to retain them.

Repeat Page Header and Footer

Select to repeat headers and footers on each page. Clear to show data under a single set of headers.

Multipage

Specifies whether the PDF output is generated as a multipage document. Select this checkbox to enable multipage rendering.

Download as a Zip File

Specifies whether the generated PDF is downloaded as a compressed (.zip) file. Set to Yes to enable downloading the PDF in a zipped format.

Password Protect Document

Specifies whether password protection is applied to the PDF document. When enabled, users must enter the defined password to open the document.

Suffix Timestamp

Specifies whether a timestamp is appended to the output file name. Set to Yes to include a timestamp suffix for uniqueness.

Timestamp Format

Specifies the format of the timestamp appended to the file name when Suffix Timestamp is enabled. Configure the format as per required date and time representation.

Separator

Choose or define a character to separate columns in the CSV file.

Enclosure

Choose or define a character to enclose each column value.

Target XLS

Enables exporting the report in CSV format with XLS-like formatting.

Include (Grid, Chart, Matrix)

Select to include selected components in the CSV output. Data is appended in plain text format.
