Recommending Live connection mode with Kyvos

Live connections create a real-time link to the data source, querying it whenever a visualization refreshes or a filter applies. Unlike extracts, which copy data locally, live connections always fetch the latest data from the source.

Why Live Connections work better with Kyvos Semantic Model:

Kyvos is purpose-built as a high-performance semantic layer with pre-calculated aggregations and intelligent semantic models that deliver sub-second query performance at massive scale. Live connections leverage these optimizations directly, providing real-time data access without the overhead of extract refreshes, data duplication, or storage costs. Creating extracts would bypass Kyvos' powerful optimization engine and duplicate work already done by the semantic layer.

To create a live connection, perform the following steps.

  1. Connect to Kyvos Semantic Model.

  2. Verify the connection shows Live status (database icon) at top-right.

  3. Build visualizations with Live Data and Apply filters.

On the Kyvos Monitor page, you can view the real-time query execution.

  4. To confirm no extract is enabled, go to the Data menu > your data source > Use Extract checkbox must be unchecked.
