Kyvos Fields Description Enrichment in Tableau

Kyvos allows users to add comprehensive descriptions and metadata information to dimensions and measures within semantic models. This metadata enrichment includes field descriptions, business definitions, calculation logic, data lineage, usage guidelines, and contextual information. When users export the Kyvos semantic model metadata as a Tableau Data Source (TDS) file, all these descriptions are automatically embedded in the file. Upon opening the TDS in Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server, users can view these descriptions directly in the Data pane by hovering over fields or accessing field properties. This capability bridges the semantic gap between technical data models and business users, ensuring a consistent understanding of metrics across the organization.

To add semantic model metadata, perform the following steps.

1. Open the semantic model and write some extra information about the dimension or measure field in the description.

2. Now export the Kyvos semantic model metadata (TDS file) and open it in Tableau.

3. Hover the field for which you wrote some description, and you can see the same description in Tableau as well.
