Dimension Filters

Dimension filters limit data based on categorical field values, showing only selected members. They reduce the dataset before aggregation occurs. Dimension filters can be configured with single or multiple value selection, wildcard matching, or condition-based filtering. They appear first in Tableau's order of operations, making them very efficient.

To create a Dimension filter, perform the following steps.

1. Connect to OrderDate from Kyvos.

2. Drag Sum Sales to Columns and Sub-Category to Rows.

3. Drag the Region to the Filters shelf. A filter dialog appears.

4. Choose the General tab and select specific regions (e.g., Africa, APAC).

5. Click Ok.

6. To show filter control, right-click Region on the Filters shelf and select Show Filter.

7. Change filter type by clicking the dropdown on the filter card (Single Value, Multiple Values, etc.)

8. Adjust displayed values using the dropdown menu.
