Highlight Actions

Highlight actions emphasize related data across multiple views without filtering out other data. They maintain context by dimming unrelated marks while highlighting selections. Highlight actions are less aggressive than filters, keeping all data visible for comparison. They're ideal for maintaining awareness of the complete dataset while focusing attention.

To create highlight actions, perform the following steps.

1. Using OrderDate from Kyvos, create two sheets.

   1. For Sheet 1: "Category" to Color and Rows, Sum Sales to Columns.

   2. Sheet 2: "Sub-Category" to Rows, "Sum Profit" to Columns, "Category" to Color.

2. Create a dashboard with both sheets.

3. Dashboard menu: Actions > Add Action.

   Open

   

4. Click Action > Add action > Highlight.

   Open

   

5. Enter the name of the Highlight action called Category Highlight. Select Source Sheets as Sheet 1, Target Sheets as Sheet 2. Select the Hover option for the Run action on the field.

   Open

   

6. Click Ok.

7. Hover over categories in Sheet 1 to highlight matching sub-categories in Sheet 2
